Terbrugge and Rhodes rest, Adams flies home

Bob Dubery for CricInfo
2nd December 1998

Jonty Rhodes and David Terbrugge both have niggling minor injuries in the aftermath of the first Test of the South Africa/West Indies series.

Terbrugge sustained a side strain during his debut Test match and will not play for Gauteng this weekend. Terbrugge said that he felt the strain during the match but that it was not serious enough to trouble him.

``It made me cut down my pace a little,'' said Terbrugge, ``but that may have been a good thing because it made me concentrate on keeping a good line and length.''

Rhodes has a side strain and will not play for Kwa Zulu Natal in tonight's Standard Bank league match. It is expected that he will be declared fit for Friday's Standard Bank fixture.

West Indian batsman Jimmy Adams will soon be flying home.

Adams cut his right hand during the West Indian team's flight from London to Johannesburg. Although two tendons in the hand had been damaged it was hoped that the injury would heal by Christmas. Adams has kept fit - trainer Dennis Waight devised a special training routine for him - but the injury is not healing as fast as was hoped and Adams will now leave the tour party and return to the Caribbean.
