Players from four provinces will seek to further their Shell Cup aspirations during the National Second XI limited-over cricket tournament which starts at Hagley Oval tomorrow.

Canterbury meets Wellington and Auckland plays Otago in the opening round of a tournament revived by Canterbury officials to assist in the development of representative cricketers and provide the second tier with match practice at Shell Cup time. ``Ideally we would like to have a competition involving some three day matches. However, the costs of such a tournament would be prohibitive at this stage,'' said CCA operations manager Blair Hartland.
