PESHAWAR, Pakistan, Dec 1 (AFP) - Zimbabwe, the youngest of nine cricket nations, has earned the right to greater recognition after its defeat of Pakistan in the first Test, their coach Dave Houghton said on Tuesday.

The tourists defeated Pakistan by seven wickets on Monday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series after losing the one-day match series 2-1. In October the team beat India by 61 runs in a home Test.

"I don't think we are a fledgling Test nation any more. We have now played 32 Tests and have a win on foreign ground," Houghton said.

"We deserve a better deal now," he added.

Captain Alistair Campbell said: "We have started winning matches now and are no more a fledgling Test nation and it is about time we start winning regularly to earn a better place."

Campbell believes his team's consistent good performance will earn them more recognition, and with it more competition.

"I am not sure what is the reason of not getting Tests against Australia or West Indies, perhaps we were a low draw card or their itineraries were full, but now things will change," Campbell said.

Zimbabwe have yet to play against Australia and West Indies, and both Tests against England were at home.

"We will be playing against Australia in the next season and hopefully West Indies and in England in the near future," the Zimbabwe captain said.

Zimbabwe will play a four-day match against a Lahore Association side from December 4. The second Test starts December 10 in Lahore.
