``We could easily have gone through with the changes to the constitution because of the 111 votes, 80 were in favour, but we would have wasted a lot of time fighting legal battles when there are several other important issues to attend to before the World Cup,'' said Sumathipala.
``Had we gone through with it, the repercussions would have been greater,'' he said.
Sumathipala said the same notice was served in 1995 and no one objected to it and he saw no difference in the present one.
``Politics in the Cricket Board are taking important issues away,'' said Sumathipala. He said a certain section of people whom he accused ``with political and ulterior motives and with only personal interest in mind'' were trying to stall the progress of the Cricket Board.
The Cricket Board president was responding to the 'Daily News' story yesterday captioned ``Are cracks appearing in Sumathipala administration?''.
