National selection committee, headed by former Test paceman Salim Altaf, has picked the players for the competition, which is participated by top teams of the world consisting of exciting stroke-players. The committee has a former Test star Zaheer Abbas and a former Test opener Shafiq Ahmad ``Papa'' as its members.
While picking the Pakistani players, selectors have kept in mind all the experienced and talented players, who have been staking their claim for inclusion in the Pakistan cricket team.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) secretary Waqar Ahmad, while naming the seven players, said that all of them had consented to play in the tournament. While announcing the inclusion of the great all-rounder Wasim Akram in the team, he said that he was very keen to play in the tournament and test his shoulder which was healing fast. He said that Wasim Akram might not be bowling during the contest.
The Pakistan team includes three Test openers Aamir Sohail, Sajid Ali and Zahoor Elahi, who are good stroke players. The team includes good middle-order Test player Basit Ali. Besides Wasim Akram, the team also has three other all-rounders, namely Asif Mujtaba, Aamir Sohail and Naeem Ashraf. Asif Mujtaba is a solid middle-order batsman and an experienced left-arm spinner. Aamir Sohail, a Test opener, is also a fine left-arm spinner. Naeem Ashraf is a left-arm medium-pacer and a promising stroke-player.
