The DSS - S Thomas' cricket encounter, which appeared to be confined mainly to the first innings, petered out in a draw at Wijerama Mawatha, yesterday.

DSS continuing from their overnight score of 54 for 3, in reply to the Thomian first innings total of 243 for 7, best four more wickets to be 154 for 7.

Despite the failure of the top-order batting, DSS weren't through just yet. For with batting running deep, the batsmen who followed stood their ground, to come within the reach of the Thomians score to be all out at tea for 233.

This was mainly due to, two well compiled half centuries from skipper Dushantha Amaraweera and Namal Abeywickreme, supported by useful contributions from Nalin Pradeep and Malshan Alvis.

Right arm off spinner, Erantha Jayasinghe and left arm leggier, Suranga Peiris bowled best for the Thomians to take three wickets each.

In a match destined to fizzle out in a draw, with litter or no consequence, the Thomians batting a second time indulged in some batting practice.

S Thomas' 243/7 and 90/2 (S. Caldera 33, J. Siriwardene 25, D. Gunewardene, n.o. 17, D. Amaraweera 1 for 18, M. Gajanayake 1 for 0)

DSS 233 (D. Amaraweera 53, N. Abeywickreme 55, N. Pradeep 27, M. Alwis 27, E. Jayasinghe 3 for 54, S. Peiris 3 for 39, N. Ratwatte 2 for 39 )
