Tamil Union recovered spontaneously from their recent setbacks, to win the third Kurunegala Sixes cricket tournament conducted by the Kurunegala SC and concluded at the Welagedera Stadium on Wednesday.

Tamil Union, who were led by Indika de Saram, went on to defeat SSC in the quarter-finals, Bloomfield in the semi-finals and Colts in the final to record a handsome triumph.

Tamil Union's victory was in some way a slap in the face to the players who had decided to leave the club over a captaincy issue.

The team was led in the first part of the tournament by Sri Lanka cap Upul Chandana and included, apart from de Saram, Nuwan Shiroman, Sapumal Herathge, Trevor Cramer, Ranga Yasalal and Sagara Kumara.

Shiroman, who has crossed over from Galle CC, was Tamil Union's real 'find' of the tournament, winning both the 'Man of the Final' and the 'Man of the Series' awards.

Yasalal picked up the Best Bowler's prize.

Kurunegala SC's big hitter P.K. Aluwihare, who made the highest individual score of the tournament - 43 not out with four sixes in the semi-final against Colts, took the Best Batsman's award.

The tournament was conducted in two stages after rain forced an interruption. The remaining five matches from the quarter-final stage onwards was completed on Wednesday.

Former Sri Lanka Cricket Board president and Pure Beverages managing director Ana Punchihewa was the chief guest.

Commercial Bank sponsored the event.
