Eighteen players will be tried by the Canterbury cricket selectors in two matches against the New Zealand Academy team at Lincoln Green this weekend.

Two teams were named today by the selectors for a two-day match against the Academy on Saturday and Sunday and a one-day match on Monday.

Almost all the players have provincial experience with the exception Sydenham's promising Carlos McGillivray and East Christchurch Shirley's Carl Anderson.

The squad does not include any of the team's five New Zealand representatives from the Zimbabwe tour, but Geoff Allott, who is returning from injury, will play all three days to test his fitness for the forthcoming Australian tour.

The only significant omission is Mark Lane who has been the first choice wicketkeeper in Lee Germon's absence in the past two seasons. Ben Yock is being used in one game, while six players appear in both matches.

The teams are:Two-day game: Darrin Murray (captain), Brad Doody, Gary Stead, Robbie Frew, Scott Pawson, Glenn Muir, Mark Priest, Ben Yock, Geoff Allott, Warren Wisneski, Michael Owens, Mark Hastings.

One-day game: Murray, Blair Hartland, Doody, Llorne Howell, Stead, Carlos McGillivray, Lee Germon (captain), Carl Anderson, Hastings, Allott, Wisneski, John Quinn.
