While their Cricket Board officials are making a strong bid to gain Test status at the ICC annual meetings in London, Bangladesh national cricket team is making its final preparations in Dhaka for next month's Asia Cup tournament to be held in Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh emerged champions at this year's ICC trophy tournament played among the ICC associate members.

In fact Bangladesh, Kenya and Scotland are the only non-Test nations who have qualified to play in the next World Cup in England in 1999.

In the preliminary round of the Asia Cup, Bangladesh will play a match each against the Asian cricket giants Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan. Though their chances of entering the final looks slim, Bangladesh are determined to create an upset or two.

Bangladesh will also take part in the inaugural Commonwealth Games cricket tournament to be worked off from September 11 to 21 next year. Apart from several ICC associate members, almost all Test nations including the World champions Sri Lanka will be seen in action at the Commonwealth Games where cricket has been introduced for the first time.
