Joes in thrilling three-run win over Peterites

St. Joseph's by a mere three runs, edged out traditional rivals St. Peter's, who were all out for 116 off 38.4 overs, in what turned out to be a low scoring tensely fought out, exciting semifinal of the school's limited over tournament at BRC grounds yesterday.

St. Joseph's electing to bat, were up against the off cutters of Malinda Warnapura and the off spin of Dilshan Rupesinghe to be 35 for 5 and eventually were all out for the small score of 119 in 43.2 overs.

St. Peter's, overwhelmed by the dismal showing of St. Josephs, began moderately with a fair start by the openers. But with their exit and pacemen Mark Fernando and Trevin Matthews striking and support from spinners Charinda Fernando and Warnakula the meagre Josephian total loomed large, with St. Peter's at 81 for 8 off 27 overs but a determined partnership between Moses and Rupasinghe took the score on to 113 for 9 and it was left to the last pair to get the six runs which they failed by four runs.

St. Joseph's 119 in 43.2 overs (D. Ramanayake 21, A. de Mel 29, S. Fernando 17, R. de Silva 10, M. Warnapura 4 for 10, D. Rupesinghe 3 for 16, I. Sonal 2 for 33).

St. Peter's 116 in 38.4 overs (L. Moses 26, D. Rupesinghe 17, M. Warnapura 17, J. Fernando 16, N. Herath 14, M. Fernando 3 for 25, T. Matthews 3 for 13, C. Fernando 2 for 16, L. Warnakula 2 for 27).
