Former Test offspinner Shivlal Yadav says he is getting a raw deal from his employer, the government-owned Syndicate Bank. Yadav has not been paid his salary since January 1995.

Yadav retired from first class cricket in 1990. He played 35 Tests for India and captured more than 100 Test wickets in a span of nine years.

He was elected a member of the national selection committee along with four others by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which met at Mohali on Wednesday.

``Though I am not getting my salary for a long time,'' said Yadav, ``I will try my best to pick the Indian team and never deprive any promising player his due.''

Yadav joined the Syndicate Bank as a clerk in April 1978. In 1979 he was promoted to an officer after his Test debut against Australia in Bangalore.

Barring the promotion, he was not given any incentive despite being the only Hyderabad bowler to have taken more than 100 test wickets.

A couple of years ago, Syndicate Bank's chief manager, Hyderabad region, M L Gowda, bluntly told the robust cricketer to forget playing cricket and work in the bank till 2.30 pm every day like other bank employees.

Yadav told Gowda that it was not possible for him to do so as he was playing league matches besides being the joint secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association.

Gowda subsequently asked Yadav to mobilise deposits and the 40-year-old offspinner got the bank a deposit of Rs 6 million.

A year ago, the Asia Cricket Council approached Yadav to coach the Singapore cricket team for 45-days. However, the bank refused to grant him leave.

Nevertheless, Yadav went to Singapore and has continued to provide his services to cricket in Hyderabad.
