Sri Lanka appoint Yardley as coach
By William Gray
14 December 1996
SRI LANKA have appointed Bruce Yardley, the former Australia
off-spinner, as their new coach. The Board of Control, who recently sounded out Allan Lamb for the job, yesterday announced
that Yardley, 49, had signed a contract for 2.5 years, starting
on Jan 20.
He replaces Dav Whatmore, who resigned in October to take up a
two-year contract with Lancashire after guiding Sri Lanka to
World Cup victory last March.
Whatmore's main task, improving Lancashire's championship form,
will come into focus at the county's annual meeting at Old Trafford today.
