Sri Lanka Motivate Themselves From Losses
18 December 1996
World Cup champions Sri Lanka will use their loss in Kenya and
Sharjah to motivate themselves towards winning the Test and one
day series in New Zealand early next year. Skipper Arjuna Ranatunga says they have a splendid side and if Sri Lanka play the
way as they did in the World Cup, they have a pretty good chance
of beating New Zealand.
Sri Lanka, under their new coach Bruce Yardley who is due in
Colombo mid next month, are due to make a five-week tour of New
Zealand commencing February 26 to play two Tests and three one
day internationals.
It was during their last tour of New Zealand that Sri Lanka posted their first ever Test win abroad. Sri Lanka will open their
tour of New Zealand with a one day game against thee Northern
District at Owen Delamcy Park on February 27 next year.
