The 42-year-old, who retired from first class cricket before the start of last season, said he was currently in contract talks with the world one-day champions.
``It's very flattering, and we are now in the process of negotiating,'' said the South African-born former Northamptonshire skipper.
``I've always wanted to put something back into the game and this would be a great opportunity. It would have been nice to get involved with England but no-one has spoken to me about that, which is disappointing,'' he added.
If Lamb is appointed, he will take over from Dav Whatmore, who recently took up a position with Lancashire.
