BCCSL - No decision on national cricket coach as yet

7 December 1996

Sri Lanka Cricket Board said on Friday that they have not yet finalised the successor for Australian Dave Whatmore as the new national cricket coach. This follows a claim by former England star batsman Allan Lamb that he has been approached by Sri Lanka to coach their Test team.

A BCCSL source said that they have approached former Australian cricketer and coach Bob Simpson, ex-England No.3 Test batsman Allan Lamb and a few others to fill the vacancy created by a premature release of Australian Whatmore who guided them to win the World cup early this year.

The 42-year-old Lamb who retired from first class cricket before the start of last season, has said Sri Lank's offer is very flattering, and he is negotiating further with the BCCSL. A top Cricket Board official, however did not like to comment much, but said; ``nothing has been decided as yet, we are negotiating''.
