Earlier Shoaib Malik opened the innings with Saeed Anwar for Pakistan. But Saeed’s poor run with the bat continued, caught behind the stumps by David Obuya off Martin Suji for two when the score was 11 in the third over.

Shahid Afridi walked in but from the other end, Shoaib Malik was trapped leg before for three by Thomas Odoyo and Pakistan were reduced to 13-2 in the fourth over.

Younis Khan came in and hit the first four when he played a bowlers back drive off Odoyo. He, along with Afridi started the consolidation. Afridi tilted the balance into Pakistan's favour by scoring 20 runs of Odoyo’s 4th over as he smashed two sixes and an equal amount of fours.

Just when it seemed Afridi was finding his groove he played his trademark reckless shot to be out caught on the third man boundary by Angara off Tony Suji when there was no need for such adventurism and Pakistan were in trouble at 54-3 in the 12th over. He had made 31 off 28 balls including two 6s and three 4s.

At the end of the 15th over Pakistan had reached 64-3 with victory still looking far away. Kenyan captain Steve Tikolo made effective bowling changes and the screws were tightened with sprightly fielding.

Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq started to rotate strike. Younis who was settling down well spanked three consecutive 4s of the bowling of Tony Suji to ease some pressure in the 24th over. Pakistan’s 100 was brought up in the 25th over and immediately after that the 50 run partnership for the fourth wicket between Younis and Misbah off 77 balls.

Pakistan’s hopes of winning this match rest on Younis who has had a productive 2002 ODI year and is also playing well here. Pakistan need another 54 runs in 20 overs.

The second session can be interesting as the Pakistanis are not known for their run chase abilities.

Kennedy Otieno who opened had the batting put up a lot of resistance and joined hands with newcomer Thomas Odoyo to repair the damage. Both of them put on 61 runs for the third wicket before Odoyo holed out to Shoaib Akhtar off the bowling of skipper Waqar Younis. He made 28 off 49 balls including five fours. Next man in was experienced Maurice Odumbe but he couldn’t last long as he went back to the pavilion immediately after cover driving Shahid Afridi for a four. Kennedy Otieno who had his early share of luck, batted well to help Kenya reach 100 in the 20th over for the loss of four wickets.

He brought up his 50 off 69 balls and was finally dismissed by Shoaib in the 32nd over for 59 off 85 balls including five fours and three sixes.

After his dismissal the rest of the Kenyan batsmen failed to keep up the run rate and were all out in the 43rd over for 179.

Pakistani bowlers shared the wickets as Shoaib, Waqar, Razzaq and Afridi took two wickets each.

Akhtar was the best as he took 2-18 from eight overs. He continued to generate good speed as his fastest ball was recorded at 97.3 mph and his average speed was 89 mph. Apart from his speed Shoaib also maintained a tight line without giving any room to the batsmen. But like the previous games Pakistani fielding was once again sloppy as they gave away quite a few overthrows and also failed to hit the stumps direct several times.

Overall a spotty performance and lots of interest to see if Pakistan can overcome their run chasing bogey or can the well knit Kenyans bring off a great victory.

Kenyan captain Steve Tikolo won the toss and elected to bat first under grey skies. Both the teams made one change each in their teams. Pakistan brought in middle order batsman Misbah-ul-Haq to replace opener Imran Nazir while the Kenyans were forced to bring in Jimmy Kamande for injured Hitesh Modi who fractured his left index finger in the first game off the bowling of Shoaib Akhtar.

In a change of tactics Pakistan opened the bowling with Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar instead of Waqar Younis. And their decision proved fruitful straight away as Shoaib Akhtar nicknamed 'Rawalpindi Express' started of with a thundering first over which was a maiden. But from the other end Wasim Akram’s problems with the new ball continued as he gave eight runs in his second over.

Shoaib Akhtar who bowled a wonderful first over struck with the first ball of his second over as he had Ravindu Shah’s stumps shattered by a ball bowled at 95.4 mph. Kenyans were 10-1.

Captain Steve Tikolo replaced Shah but didn’t last long as Wasim Akram forced him to edge one outside the off stump and Rashid Latif completed a smart catch. Next over by Shoaib Akhtar saw opener Kennedy Obuya ride his luck on three occasions.

On the first ball Misbah ran him out through a smart piece of work but umpire Aleem Dar didn’t refer to the tv umpire as TV replays showed that Obuya’s bat was in the air.

Three balls later Obuya was clean bowled by a gem of a delivery by Shoaib only to find out that it was a no-ball, the very next ball Obuya gave a straight forward catch to Saeed Anwar in the covers who dropped it.

Afridi helped slow down the scoring and snapped up Odumbe in the 18th over. The middle order batsmen did not do well and after 30 overs the Kenyans were at 133.

On Friday the World Champions Australia outplayed Pakistan in all departments of the game.

Also in the first match Pakistan crawled their way to a four-wicket victory over Kenya.

There are plenty of areas where the Pakistanis need to improve. Their batting lacked consistency in both the games whereas in bowling they failed to bowl on one side of the wicket and the result was unnecessary extras, which cost them dearly. The Pakistanis will also be on a low in confidence after the defeat at the hands of the Aussies.

Pakistan can bring in batsman Misbah-ul-Haq to replace Imran Nazir in order to strengthen the fragile batting.

For the Kenyans, they have nothing to lose and can only improve after their excellent showing in the last match when they gave Pakistan a tough time. Had they scored 30-40 extra runs in the first game they could have given the Pakistanis a run for their money. The best thing for the Kenyans would be to stay positive, enjoy themselves and learn from their experience.

Steve Tikkolo won the toss and immediately decided to bat on a firm track that looks to have lots of runs in it. Its cloudy again and the ball may move around a bit early on.
