The umpires too had a fair bit to do on the field what with players,
ever alert to the importance of getting wickets, rushing in with
ardent pleas at the faintest whiff of an opportunity. To their credit,
both David Shepherd and Steve Bucknor, two of the finest of their
tribe, accredited themselves well. It was probably his outstanding
success on the day that prompted good old Shep into this attempt at
maintaining control when a stray dog walked onto the field of play.
