The classy opener settled in to play the sheet-anchor's role. Sangakkara, who replaced Jayasuiya, meanwhile, took little time to get going as the duo began a 75-run second wicket partnership. Warne, who bowled beautifully, was the only bowler who troubled them until the return of McGrath. The Australian pace ace claimed Sangakkara's wicket after the latter had made 48. Thirty-two balls later, he scalped Atapattu (51) too. But by then Sri Lanka were just a handshake away from victory. De Silva and Mahela Jayawardene scored the three runs that were required to complete the formalities. De Silva went on to receive the Man of the Match award for his economical spell in the early overs of the Australian innings.
