It was at this stage that England unearthed a new hero in the left-
handed Ian Blackwell. The 24-year-old Somerset all-rounder had only
played in one ODI previously but the delicacy of his team's situation
failed to daunt him. He was soon launching into a flurry of shots that
not only went on to resuscitate the England innings but soon had it
bounding onwards. By the time he was run out in the 50th over, the
young man had made 82 off 68 balls with six fours and three crisply
hit sixes.
