India went on to win the closely-fought match by 14 runs. Mohammad Kaif was named Man of the Match for his unbeaten 111. When asked about his success batting at number seven, Kaif said at the post-match presentation ceremony: "It is just a matter of how you prepare yourself back home when you practice in the nets. I have been practicing a few shots and that came off very well." Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, for his part, said that chasing 289 for victory was never going to be easy for the Zimbabweans, though, they made a good fist of it. "We always had the run rate under control. Scoring ten runs an over batting second is not always easy," the Indian skipper observed.
