Nicky Boje was at hand to congratulate Dawson after the thrilling last-ball win. The South Africans, who had beaten the West Indies in the final to win the inaugural edition of the knock-out championship at Dhaka in 1998, had done it again. Pollock summed up the nature of the win when he said, "The big positive was that we didn't play to our potential but still managed to win." Hooper, meanwhile, blamed his players for losing a match that was in their grasp. "A game is never over until the end but with South Africa needing 13 to win off the final over we should have won," he observed.

What was the turning point of the West Indies-South Africa match?
