India had to score 376 runs to make Sri Lanka bat again. They started off in good fashion, Das (68) and Ramesh (55) adding 107 runs for the first wicket. There were three fatal run outs in the Indian innings as it went from bad to worse; Dravid (36), Kaif (5) and then on the final day Dighe (4) were victims of poor running between the wickets. Ganguly (30) and Badani (11) failed with the bat. Zaheer Khan (45) had some fun in the late order, but all was lost and Sri Lanka were winners by an innings and 77 runs. The series was won by the Lankans 2-1. Muttiah Muralitharan was named Man of the Match and the Man of the Series for his 11 wickets in the match and 23 wickets for the series.
