SOUTHERN ELECTRIC PREMIER LEAGUE 2001
THE FAIR PLAY AWARDS
(words from Ray Holyer, Chairman of the South Coast Panel of Cricket Umpires)
The results have been collated utilising a marking of 4 for excellent, 3 for good, 2 for
satisfactory and 0 for poor. Resultant tables produced a winner in the form of LIPHOOK and
RIPSLEY CRICKET CLUB and the Trophy will be presented to them at the Southern Electric Premier
Cricket League Annual Dinner on Friday 9th November 2001.
Liphook and Ripsley Cricket Club also won the Trophy in the 2000 season and are to be
congratulated on a supreme effort to hold onto the award.
CRITERIA
At the end of each match, both umpires together gave each club an assessment of excellent, good,
satisfactory or poor based on the following basic criteria:
1) Players attitudes to the game, opponents and officials (umpires and scorers)
2) Captains control of his players
3) Captains acceptance of his responsibility for ensuring that the match was played within the
spirit of the game as well as within the Laws (especially Law 42.1)
4) Acceptance of all umpiring decisions (including Wides and No Balls)
5) Excessive/unjustified appeals
6) Levels of player shouting/abuse
7) Levels of "sledging"
