About the City:
Known as the Gateway to Gujarat, Ahmedabad is a densely industrialised city, ironic for one that was established as early as 1411. Known as the 'Manchester of the East,' Ahmedabad is a hub for the textile and petrochemical industries. Although England will be playing during the cooler months in the city, temperatures have been known to soar as high as 45 degrees Celsius in the summer. Humidity, often a major factor affecting the swing of the ball, is very high, more often than not making for sultry cricketing conditions.

About the Ground:
Built in a record time of nine months, Motera hosted the West Indies in its first Test in 1983. Since then, many records have been broken here, notably Sunil Gavaskar crossing the 10,000-run mark and Kapil Dev breaking Richard Hadlee's record of 431 wickets. A typical Indian wicket, Motera offers some movement early on the first day and supports slow turn virtually for the rest of the match.

Motera Stadium has spawned many legends, among them
|
|
Jasu Patel: An off-break bowler, Jasu Patel's greatest moment was undoubtedly the 1958-59 Test against Australia at Kanpur where, as a surprise selection, he bowled India to victory by taking 14 wickets, including innings figures of 9-69 that stood as an Indian record for almost 40 years.
