(3rd Test: India v England at Bangalore, 19-23 Dec 2001)
It was a cold morning at Bangalore, and the sun was not be seen through the dark clouds. Nasser Hussain won the toss and elected to bat first on a newly laid track. The match did get off to a start, thanks largely to the floodlights that stayed employed through the Test match. England had a disastrous start, with Marcus Trescothick (8) caught by VVS Laxman off Javagal Srinath. Mark Butcher (27) was then run out by Rahul Dravid. It was left to Hussain (43) and Michael Vaughan (64) to steady the innings. Michael Vaughan was dismissed in a bizarre fashion, handling the ball.
