Australia concludes victorious Under-19 series
The Australian Under-19 squad have concluded a successful six-match series against Sri Lanka with a win in the final Youth Test match at the Perth cricket club last weekend.
The Australians won the Test at Fletcher Park by six wickets, completing the game and the series a day early.
Reflecting on the tour, Australian coach Rod Marsh said it was a valuable experience for all squad members, giving them a chance to test their abilities against an international opponent.
"I was very pleased with the overall performance of the team, who played some very mature cricket throughout all six matches," Marsh said.
"I believe that this is the best under-19 side Australia has produced for some time, which certainly augurs well for next year's Youth World Cup."
West Australian batsman Shaun Marsh was named player-of-the-series for Australia. Marsh, the son of former Australian vice-captain and coach Geoff Marsh made scores of 123, 40 and 69 during his time at the crease.
Captain Thilina Kandambi was Sri Lanka's player-of-the-series, making a top score of 57.
The Australian International Under-19 Series was jointly funded by the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) and the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy, an official program of the Australian Institute of Sport.
