Canada XI v Bermuda, G Ross Lord Park, Toronto
Report from the Canadian Cricket Association - 7 August 1999

Bermuda played a superlative all-round game one against a Canadian XI at G Ross Lord Park in Toronto on Saturday August 7, 1999.

Bermuda batting first amassed 279 runs for 6 wickets in 50 overs. Albert Steede scored an unbeaten 94, with Clay Smith 55, Charles Marshall 39 and Dean Minors a hurricane 43 not out, leading the charge. Abdool Samad lead the Canadian bowling with 3 wickets for 48 runs.

In their turn at the crease Canada immediately lost two early wickets and never recovered. In addition, one of their players injured his hand in attempting a return catch and was unable to continue. Canada was dismissed for 124 runs with H Bascome's 4 for 24 leading the Bermudan attack.

Manager Mike Glassford and Visiting Coach Darryl Cullinan (South Africa) should be pleased by a total team effort of the Bermuda team in their first game.

The Sir Henry Tucker Trophy, presented for competition between Canada and Bermuda, has been brought to Canada for this event. President Elvin James, although unable to attend this year's event, must be commended for his efforts to restart this competition. Next year, Canada and Bermuda expect to see wider competition in all of the Americas.
