The Electronic Telegraph Sussex v Durham, National League Second Division, Round 07
William Gray - 13 June 1999

Sussex sustain success run

Sussex (162-3) bt Durham (161) by 7 wickets

Michael Di Venuto hit an unbeaten 72 as Sussex scored their fifth straight victory in Division Two, overpowering Durham by seven wickets with more than 19 overs to spare.

Di Venuto shared an exhilarating second-wicket stand of 126 in 16 overs with captain Chris Adams, who made 64 from 47 balls.

Adams eventually played on to former Sussex off-spinner Nicky Phillips, who trapped Jamie Carpenter leg before in his next over.

Durham, in stark contrast, have now lost their opening six games and they shed wickets steadily after opener John Morris and Paul Collingwood had compiled a second-wicket stand of 72 in 11 overs.
