The Electronic Telegraph Surrey v Northamptonshire, National League Second Division, 1999 (Round 2)
The Electronic Telegraph - 25 April 1999

An unbroken stand of 60 in seven overs between Tony Penberthy and Graeme Swann gave Northamptonshire victory with 10 balls to spare at the Oval. It was not a game to boost the confidence of Surrey's three World Cup players. Alec Stewart, who was dropped second ball toiled for 21 overs for his 27 before giving Penberthy the first of his four wickets. Graham Thorpe offered two chances, on nought and 32, while Adam Hollioake mistimed a drive to mid-on early on his innings. Northamptonshire's reply was built on Mal Loye's 75-ball 55 before Swann struck 29 off 19 balls.

A sparkling half-century from Piran Holloway led Somerset to a 52-run victory over Durham at Taunton. Holloway, normally renowned for his dogged qualities at the crease, cracked seven fours in a 71-ball innings of 54.
