Vasantha Udaya Kumara Jayawardena, seventeen years of age, is a
student of class 10 at the school for the blind at Ratmanala. He
belongs to the Anuradhapura district. His favourite cricketers are
Roshan Mahanama and Mark Waugh. Udaya is a partially blind (B2) player.
Selvarajage Thushantha Pradeep is sixteen years
of age and a student at the blind school at Ratmanala. He belongs to
the Badulla district of the Uva Province. His favourite cricketers are
Murlidharan and Azharuddin. Pradeep is a partially blind (B3) player.
Manoj Nishantha Bandara, seventeen years of
age is a student of class eleven in the blind school at Ratnamala. He
belongs to the Nuwara Eliya district in the Central province. His
favourite cricketers are Sanath Jayasuriya and Tendulkar. Bandara is
also an ace athlete. He won two golds, four silver and one bronze at
the World athletics meet for the disabled held in Australia in1997. He
is a partially blind (B3) player.
U Priyantha was born on the 13th of February
1975. He finished his schooling from the blind school at Ratmanala
and at present is an undergraduate at Jayawardenapura University doing
his honours in Buddhist culture. He enjoys playing cricket and
listening to commentaries. Priyantha is a totally blind (B1) player.
Asoka Weerawardena is 23 years of age and has
been blind since birth. He is from Badulla in Uva province. He passed
out from the blind school in Ratmanala, had his further education at
St. Thomas College, Lavinia and is currently in the University of
Kelaniya studying Sociology, mass communication and Sinhala. He is
extremely proud to be able to represent his country. Asoka is a
totally blind (B1) player.
Damika Ruwan Kumara Gunasekara is from
Meerigama in the Western Province. He completed his O levels from
school for the Blind at Tangalle and is presently doing his A levels
back in his home town. He enjoys playing cricket and listening to the
radio. Ruwan is a partially blind (B2) player.
Chandana Thusara is from Aluthgama in the
Western Province. He finished his O levels from school for the blind
at Tangalle and is presently studying for his A levels in his home
town. His hobbies are playing cricket, draft and reading. Thushara is
a partially blind (B2) player.
Sarath Kumara is from Embilipitiya in Southern
Province. His date of birth is 25th. October 1978. He has been blind
since the age of 12. He is a student at the blind school at Ratmalana.
Sarath is a partially blind (B3) player.
Totabaddage Chinthaka Satishchandra was born
on the 6th of November 1979 at Mukalangamuwa, Seeduwa in the Western
province. After schooling at the Blind School at Ratmalana he joined
as a student at the Rehabilitation Centre for the disabled at
Liyanagemulla, Seeduwa. Satishchandra has taken part in many sporting
events in the past and has won prizes. He is a partially blind (B2)
player.
Officials
Alex Mahindapala Jayawardena, 53 years old is self employed. He
is the Vice president of National Federation of Sports for the
Disabled. He is Vice President Sri lankan Council for the Blind and
Vice President Sri Lankan Federation of the Visually Handicapped.
Keerthi Hemalal Kumarasinghe, 47 years old teaches at the blind
school at Ratmanala. Keerthi is quite a resourceful person at the
school. He is involved in teaching science, instructing students on
mobility and orientation and coaching students on the games field.
Sriyaratna Wanniarachchi, 44 years old is self employed. For
almost a decade he has been involved in social work. He is an
Executive Committee Member of the Sri lanka Council for the Blind and
an honorary Treasurer of the National Federation of Sports for the
Disabled.
Undugodage Rupasinghe Rodrigo, 52 years is a superintendent at
the Vocational Training Centre, Seeduwa.This is part of the Ministry
of Social Services. He is an Executive committee member of Sri lanka
Council for the Blind. Rupsinghe is also a patron with the Sri lanka
Federation of the Visually Handicapped , Gampaha district branch.
