Peru v Guyana, Group-B (South American Championship) Spencer Bailey, John Milton, and Deusa Souza - 1 April 1999 CricInfo report |
In Group Two, consisting of Guyana, Venezuela and Peru, Guyana beat Peru by nine runs in a thrilling game. No Peruvian batsmen managed to dominate the innings though a late floursih from Peruvian captain Viv Ash gave them a final boost before a run out left Peru 09 runs short. Most people expressed surprise that the team from Guyana used 6 slow bowlers but their tight line and lenght made it difficult for the Peruvian batsmen to score runs. The Guyana captain, 57-year-old Moe Ally, took 2-13 in 8 overs and Abdool Gani took 2-17 in 4 overs.
The competition continues on April 2 with Brazil v Argentina at Markhan, and Peru v Venezuela at Lima Cricket and Football Club.
