Carlton Series, Final #2: Match Abandoned The Daily News - 12 February 1999 MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND, Friday - The second game in the best of three Carlton and United finals between Australia and England was abandoned without a ball being bowled owing to heavy rain which started in the morning. The umpires decided to abandon play at 5 p.m. Australian time. This match will now be played on the reserve day - Saturday. At one stage the rains ceased and Alec Stewart won the toss and elected to bat. But a few minutes before the start, the rains started all over again and continued unceasingly until the umpires decided to abandon the game. Australia lead one-nil in the best of three finals beating England by 10 runs in the first final played in Sydney. Australia has recalled Stuart Law into their side for the injured Michael Bevan.
