Date-stamped : 06 Oct97 - 18:09 October 6, 1997 Windwards secure win CRICKET: The Windward Islands registered their first win of the inaugural Red Stripe Bowl cricket competition yesterday beating the inexperienced Bermuda team by 125 runs in their Group A encounter at Melbourne Oval. Scores: Windwards 332 for four from 50 overs; Bermuda 207 for four from 50 overs. Sent into bat the Windwards found runs easy to get as opening batsman and man-of-the-match Dawnley Joseph scored an unbeaten 153 after posting 105 for the first wicket with Alton Crafton before the latter was brilliantly run out by substitute Cleon Scotland for 63 in the 19th over. Joseph then shared in two fruitful stands of 96 with John Sylvester (40) for the second wicket and an unfinished 75 for the fifth wicket with Kenroy Martin who was 21 not out at the end of the innings. Joseph got his runs from 164 balls in 200 minutes with one six and 19 fours. Despite an even unbeaten 100 by Clay Smith (17 fours from 160 balls in 188 minutes) Bermuda were restricted to 207 for four. Anthony Amory (39) and captain Arnold Manders (38) were the other batsmen to reach double figures against West Indies pacer Nixon McLean who took two wickets for 64 runs Source :: The Jamaica Gleaner (http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/) Contributed by The Management (help@cricinfo.com)
