Trinity College conceded as many as 39 extras (19 wides) in Maris Stella's innings which was one of the contributing factors towards their defeat. Trinity taking first base of the wicket were helped through a good knock of 60 with 6 fours in 93 balls by Rodney de Raffayal. He put on 89 for the third wicket with Suranga Moratota 40 (8 fours, 41 balls). Trinity were 151 for 4 at one stage but some indifferent batting against good bowling by off spinner D. Rodrigo (4 for 36) saw them slump to 198 all out with 4 of the overs remaining. Maris Stella in their turn at the wickets after an early loss were 90 for 2 at one stage with Lakmal Fernando 46 (7 fours, 79 balls) and Kasun Bulathsinghala 63 (4 fours, 1 six, 108 balls) adding 85 for the second wicket. They were 151 for 4 at one stage but a minor collapse saw them slide to 184 for 8 but some aggressive balling by L. Anthony (20 not out) saw them reach their target without further loss. Senanayake MV, Isipatana, Richmond, Dharmapal and Lumbini won their respective first round matches played yesterday to enter the pre-quarter-finals of the Coca Cola Trophy limited over cricket tournament, conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association. Royal too joined with Wednesday's winners Thurstan, St. Sylvester's, St. Sebastian's and the defending champions St. Joseph's for Sunday's pre-quarter-finals line-up. The Reid Avenue boys received a walk over from Kingswood as the Kandy team did not turn up for Thursday's match at Reid Avenue. S. Thomas' batsmen warmed-up hitting a total of over 300 runs while the other games were low scoring affairs. The Thomian skipper Upeka Fernando, their 'big Match' hero with twin half centuries, made another superb 60 runs as his team made a commanding 324 for 6 in 50 overs against Taxila Central, Horana at Mt. lavinia. In reply, the team from Horana were 103 for 7 in 50 overs, giving Thomians a convincing 221-run victory. It was a matter of 45.3 overs of play in all as D. S. Senanayake MV thrashed President's College, Rajagiriya by eight wickets. The visitors, batting first, were bowled out for 93 off 33.4 overs. D. Siriwardena 15, C. Dharmapala stun Nalanda A seventh wicket stand of 152 runs between Thisaru Seneviratne (74) and Saminda Baladeva (73) helped Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya to score a stunning 38-run win over Nalanda College, Colombo in their Coca Cola Trophy cricket match played at Pannipitiya yesterday. Dharmapala taking first lease of the wicket were reeling at 43 for 6 when these two batsmen came together to rescue the innings. Thisaru had four boundaries in his innings while Saminda had 13 hits to the ropes in his knock. Nalanda in reply were bowled out for 203 despite a sparkling knock of 92 by Sanjaya Rodrigo who had 12 boundaries and two sixes in his innings. Paceman Sanjaya Devapura (3 for 18) and spinner Chamila Jayasinghe (3 for 15) were the chief wreckers.
