KARACHI, Oct 15: Leg-spinner Ali Husain Rizvi is set to make his Test debut against South Africa at Sheikhupura on Friday , chairman of selectors, Salim Altaf confirmed on Wednesday. ``We have prepared a turning track and I am sure the boy can deliver the goods. He is tall and can make the ball bounce and turn,'' Altaf said from his Lahore residence.

``I am quite confident that Rizvi can be a back up for Mushtaq Ahmad. He is a youngster and I would hate to give him the Test cap on a docile or placid track where he is hit all over the place which may result in complete shattering of his confidence,'' Altaf added.

Altaf emphasised that South Africans were vulnerable against spinners ``and their weakness can be exploited further by preparing a turning track and including three spinners in the team.''

The chief selector was hopeful that his team would capitalise from the opportunity before it sets of for Faisalabad. ``We will see the conditions there before finalising the team.

``As we have been informed, there would be grass on the track and it is said to help the seamers. So there might be some changes but at the moment, we are concentrating on the second Test instead of jumping for the final game,'' he said.

Ali Husain Rizvi toured England with the Pakistan A team and grabbed 28 wickets on the tour. He was included for the three-day game where he snapped up 11 wickets in the match. Last season, he captured 54 wickets at 20.18.

Commenting on the likely combination of the side, Salim Altaf said it would comprise five batsmen, three spinners, two pacers and a wicketkeeper.

Altaf refused to go into further details but information gathered by this correspondent reveals that Mohammad Ramazan and Waqar Younis may be left out.

``Mohammad Wasim batted more confidently on turning tracks while Waqar Younis still has slight pain in his left heel,'' sources said on the condition of anonymity.

However, they stressed that both Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis did bowl flat out in the training camp at Lahore.

Salim Altaf, on Aamir Sohail, said he has received a mixed report from his colleague Shafiq Ahmad who watched Peshawar's three-day game between South Africa and Allied Bank.

``A 100 is a 100. Shafiq told me that he (Aamir Sohail) started off nervously when he threw his bat at everything. On the second day, he was selective in shot and played exceedingly well later on. ``But Shafiq was unhappy when Aamir blew away his first innings performance by batting low down the order and then scoring only 7. I personally feel that Aamir should have opened the innings and scored another 50 odd runs to further bolster his chances,'' Altaf said. Shafiq Ahmad, Salim Altaf continued, had all praise for Manzoor Akhtar. ``He was fascinated by his (Manzoor Akhtar) innings. He says it was a sweetly timed knock.''

Salim Altaf hinted that the team against the home series against the West Indies would be selected from the eventual 17 players who would have played against South Africa and then the quadrangular tournament. ``It's premature to commit but I will take the West Indies four-dayer at Rawalpindi very seriously as I plan to include all the new players in that game,'' he said.
