RAWALPINDI, Oct 8: Britain's Queen Elizabeth II watched the post-tea session's play of the first cricket Test between South Africa and Pakistan at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.
Dressed in pink, the Queen was accompanied by her consort, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Pakistan President Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari and other high ranking officials.
Her Majesty arrived at the Pindi Cricket Stadium at 2:55 p.m. and immediately went to the field where she was introduced to both the teams.
The Queen then went to the Commissioner's box and watched the overs bowled by Waqar Younis and Saqlain Mushtaq.
Minor incidents were reported before the arrival of the Queen at the stadium. The police used baton and fired tear gas shells on the spectators who wanted to enter the 17,000-capacity stadium after the local administration had announced free entry to the third day's play.
The stadium was already packed-to-capacity. In front of the main pavilion, police clashed with students as they were denied entry into the ground. Later, the angry students pelted stones on the law-enforcing personnel who retaliated with tear-gas shelling. As the mob ran for shelter, some students threw stones on the parked cars and reportedly damaged two vehicles.
