1998 Summer Eights
1998 Summer Eights - The Winners!

Fosters Lamma and Sportsmen CC celebrate victory in the Summer Eights. Check out the final Points Tables.

History of the Summer Eights
The Summer Eights was introduced in Hong Kong in 1996 to provide an opportunity for the vast pool of cricketers to play more cricket - especially those who are unable to commit themselves to play every Saturday or Sunday during the regular season because of business or family commitments.

The response in 1996 was overwhelming with 22 teams entering the competition which was played during May and June. The top eight teams competed for the Players Cup, and the remaining fourteen played for the Gentlemen's Cup. The inaugural Summer Eights proved to be a welcome addition to the cricket calendar, and by its very nature is very suitable to the fast pace of life in Hong Kong.

The inaugural competition also provided the opportunity for the HKCA to streamline the event for 1997. The number of teams was restricted to sixteen, some rule alterations were made for the better, and Finals weekend was scheduled for the last weekend in May, thereby avoiding the hot, sticky summer weather. The new condensed format involves a round-robin followed by a knockout stage culminating in a Plate and a Cup Final.
