According to well informed sources, Zaheer Abbas, member of the three-man selection panel, had written his note of dissent on the team which didn't include the names of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Moin Khan besides, Akhtar Sarfaraz.

Rashid Latif was named captain while Yousuf Yohanna, Mohammad Husain, Fazl-i-Akram were selected.

Sources, on condition of anonymity, said chief selector Salim Altaf and member Shafiq Ahmad had argued for the inclusion of two wicketkeepers. The strategy, which was applied in the quadrangular golden jubilee cricket tournament, was emphatically opposed by Zaheer Abbas on the grounds that it was a short tour of eight days with the maximum of four matches, including two finals if Pakistan qualify.

After Zaheer's refusal to accept the plan, the two selectors maintained that Moin Khan deserved a rest after keeping wickets for 18 months. Zaheer finally expressed complete dissatisfaction with the team when his two other colleagues decided to exclude Wasim and Waqar. Zaheer, according to sources, had further raised objections on the selection of Yousuf Yohanna, a virtually unknown cricketer who is playing his maiden domestic season.

Sources further stated that Zaheer, a former Pakistan captain and a veteran of 78 Tests, is considering to resign from the selection committee.

Not only Zaheer is annoyed with the treatment meted to the three super stars, but is also upset because Rashid Latif was named skipper by the selection panel though the appointment of captain is the prerogative of the PCB Executive Council.
