Glenn McGrath unfit for Second Test

14 November 1997

Australian Cricket Board Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed today announced that fast bowler Glenn McGrath could not be considered for the Second Test Match against New Zealand, starting at the WACA Ground in Perth next Thursday.

Mr Speed said the decision not to consider McGrath for selection had been taken after the fast bowler had undergone an ultrasound scan on his injured left groin in Sydney today.

Mr Speed said Australian team physiotherapist Errol Alcott had spoken with Chairman of Selectors Trevor Hohns this afternoon after receiving the reports of the two specialists who had examined McGrath during the last two days.

"The recommendation from Errol Alcott and Trevor Hohns, after receiving the reports form the specialists, is that Glenn needs rest and cannot be considered for the second Test match," Mr Speed said.

"After the second Test, a decision will then be made on Glenn's availability for the third Test match against New Zealand in Hobart at the end of the month."
