Injuries worry West Indies as they win three-day game Daily News - Monday 11, November 1996 PERTH, Australia, Nov 10 All-rounder Carl Hooper took four for 59 on Sunday to set up a nine wicket victory for West Indies on the final day of their three-day match against Western Australia. But the West Indies' comfortable victory was overshadowed by a series of worrying injuries just 12 days ahead of the first test against Australia in Brisbane. Foremost of these is a strained groin sustained by key fast bowler Curtly Ambrose while Brian Lara and Junior Murray are also injured. Lara, who did not play against Western Australia, and Murray are both nursing sore hamstrings. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who retired hurt on Saturday night with a slight groin strain after scoring 123, returned on Sunday to take his total to 135 not out as West Indies declared their first innings at 441 for five. Western Australia, who had made 293 for six declared in their first innings, collapsed to 170 all out, leaving West Indies needing 26 runs to win. Adrian Griffith scoring 23 not out after opening partner Robert Samuels fell to Sean Carey for a duck. Western Australia trailed West Indies by 148 on the first innings and all hope of saving the match vanished when they lost six wickets for 17 runs in 43 balls just after tea. Manager Clive Lloyd told reporters many of the injuries to his key players were due to playing on hard Australian wickets. ``Once they get accustomed to harder pitches and outfields, they'll be fine,'' Lloyd said. Ambrose, Murray and Lara are likely to miss West Indies' next match against a Northern Territory Invitation XI in Alice Springs on Tuesday. Chanderpaul's innings, the first century for West Indies on their current tour, lasted 283 minutes and included 21 boundaries from 226 balls. Western Australia first innings 293 for six declared
