Walsh said that the main reason for the West Indies' going under 3-1 to Australia in the ongoing Test series was its inability to find a dominant batsman.
Brian Lara, holder of the world record for the highest Test and first class scores, has had a dismal run of 6, 44, 2, 1, 2, 2, 9 and 78 in Australia thus far, with that aggressive 78 in the second innings of the fourth Test being the only occasion when he has looked like his usual self.
``We in the West Indies believe it's going to be impossible for Brian to dominate every single Test series,'' Walsh said. ``It's probably a good thing for him for it to happen now.
``All great players go through these patches. I'm not going to pick on Brian because he hasn't got runs - great players do fail from time to time.''
Walsh said that what was worrying him more than Lara's poor run with the bat was the failure of other top-order players to come up with big innings. The likes of Jimmy Adams, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Sherwin Campbell have all performed less than at par during the ongoing series.
