WITH TWO past cricketing stalwarts at the helm, Wesley has shown clear signs of improvement this season. The first Sri Lankan Test captain Bandula Warnapura is coach and former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper and an old Wesleyite Russel Hamer is Prefect of Games and they are in the process of moulding Wesley into a confident and even a match- winning combination.

`` The team is talented but they lack the much needed confidence and instilling this aspect is my prime objective.'' said coach Warnapura.

In comparison to the dismal performances during the past few years, losing a good number of matches, Wesley has picked up quickly to give a run to the other schools this season.

Last year, out of the 15 matches played they lost 6 but this season they have fared quite well. Out of the seven matches, they have won against St.Peter's, a victory achieved after 30 years.

There are no colourmen in the side but most of the players are in their second year.

Left-arm-leg-spinner Manjula Karunaratne will lead the side and he will have a variety of bowlers at his disposal.

Brian Senadira, in his third year, is the other left-arm spinner with B. Herath being another left-arm medium pacer. A. Gunawarde- na and M. Zainudeen have proved to be an effective opening bowl- ing combination.

Most of their batsmen have been consistent with 40's and fifty's, besides T. Fernando the wicket-keeper who has excelled in his position and is also their regular opening batsman.D.Jayakoody is the other opener.

C. Siriwardena, D. P. Wenceslaus, H. Amarasekera, and A. Cader have made useful contributions in the middle order.
