A record total of 454 for 6 by Aluthgama Maha Vidyalaya put them in a commanding position in their inter school cricket match against Sri Sumangala Maha Vidyalaya, Kandy which began at Police Grounds, Kandy yesterday.
The match will be continued today at 9.45 am.
Having shot out Sri Sumangala for a paltry 77, the Aluthgama boys sent them on a leather hunt amassing 454 for 6 in only 61 overs and 270 minutes of batting.
Nissanka Silva followed up his bowling figures 4 for 22 by thumping a quick 176 in only 115 balls with the aid of 6 sixes and 15 fours. He reached his hundred in only 50 balls.
Nissanka Silva was involved in a fourth wicket stand of 144 with Ravi Kahingala (37). There was another good stand of 120 for the sixth wicket between Tharanga Fernando (66 not out) and W. R. Sujeewa Silva (70) who also bowled well to capture 4 for 37).
With more batting to follow, the Aluthgama lads are keen on continuing batting this morning to top the 500 mark to set up an all time record.
