PETERITES ON TOP

St. Peter's College finished on top at the end of the first day's playing their inter-school cricket match against Trinity College which began at the Asgiriya Stadium yesterday. The match will be continued today at 9.30 a.m.

Trinity batting first found it difficult to come to terms with the bowling of Malinda Warnapura 4 for 19 (off cutters) and Chrishantha Pieris 3 for 51 (left-arm spin) and were dismissed for 158 shortly after lunch.

The Peterites at close had hit up 121 for 4 with Malinda Warnapura scoring a patient 37 not out after the first three wickets fell for 66.

Sparkling knock of 69 by Tharaka

A breezy knock of 69 by Skipper Tharaka Gunaratne helped St. Anthony's College, Kandy to score 189 for 6 declared in their inter- school cricket match against Kingswood College which began at Peradeniya yesterday. At close Kingswood had replied with 66 for 4. The match will be continued today at 9.45 am.

I write to clarify certain points therein regarding air transport:

While AirLanka was the official carrier to the World Congress of Locomotor Disorders and Sports Medicine, delegates were also carried on other airlines. We wish to clarify that none of the delegates that Airlanka undertook to carry were stranded at their points of origin and therefore the necessity to arrange special flights did not arise.

Coca Cola youth soccer finals today

The two finals of the Coca Cola Youth soccer tournament conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka will be played at the Sports Ministry grounds, Reid Avenue today Saturday, January 4.

M. H. Mohamed Playground will play Gampola United SC in the under- 15 final at 3.15 p.m. while the under-17 final is between Saunders SC and M. H. Mohamed Playground at 4.30 p.m.

The tournaments were conducted on a league basis ad winner and runner-up of each group qualified for the knockout competition.

Manilal Fernando, President of Football Federation of Sri Lanka will be the chief guest.
