*Maitland Place in Colombo 7, which houses the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka is to be renamed Champions' Avenue in recognition of the Sri Lanka team winning the Wills World Cup in March last year.

The Ex-Co of the Cricket Board has requested the Colombo Municipal authorities to make the change effective on March 17 to coincide with the date in which Sri Lanka won the World Cup. It was on this day last year, that Sri Lanka beat Australia by seven wickets in the final played at Lahore to acclaim themselves as the new kings of one-day cricket.

Maitland Place is also the venue of two famous cricket clubs, SSC and NCC, who together produced seven of the 14 players who represented the country in the World Cup. SSC had Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga, Asanka Gurusinha, Pramodya Wickremasinghe and Marvan Atapattu, and NCC, Sri Lanka vice-captain Aravinda de Silva, Hashan Tillekratne and Ravindra Pushpakumara.

* The tournament committee of the Cricket Board is to take action against a member of the executive committee for playing in a division I (Segment 'B') match without first registering himself. The club in which this member is the president, stands to forfeit all the points gained in this match for violating the tournament rules and conditions.

The tournament rules makes it imperative for all clubs to register all its players for the season. Under Rule 14 of Part 'A' the tournament committee also has the power to refer the matter to the disciplinary committee for further action. Cricket Board sources said this member had gone to the extent of playing him- self in the top division in order to make himself an eligible candidate for the forthcoming elections of the Cricket Board.

* Kingswood College, Kandy had to be satisfied with a first innings lead in their Coca Cola Bottlers Trophy cricket encounter against St. Thomas' College, Bandarawela which ended in a draw at the Badulla Esplanade.

The visitors batting first scored 117 runs in 39.4 overs but STC were bundled out for 69 runs in 23.5 overs. Batting for the second time Kingswood scored 178 runs in 48 overs. Chasing a to- tal of 226 runs STC at one stage appeared to be heading for an outright victory with 150 for 2 and needing 76 runs in the last 15 overs. However their middle order batsmen threw away their wickets and they were 192 for 8 in 57 overs at close of play.

* Negombo Cricket Club beat Ganemulla Youth by 15 runs in their Cricket Board divison three tournament match played in negombo. In reply to Negombo CC's 216 all out off 38.1 overs, Ganemulla Youth CC made 201 all out off 40.2 overs.

* Singhalese Sports Club registered four victories in the Cricket Board divison three cricket tournament matches. They started off with an 89-run win over Dehiwala Youth CC. In the remaining matches SSC beat Old Cambryans by 6 wickets, Nugegoda C.C. by 41 runs and Ratmalana C.C. by 205 runs.
