Madugalle and Perera take honours in drawn game

STUBBORN BATTING by Maris Stella when they followed-on, helped them to hold Isipatana to a draw in their inter-school cricket match at Negombo yesterday.

Facing a deficit of 110 runs on the first innings Maris Stella made 241 runs for 9 wickets at close of play yesterday.

For Isipatana, K. Madugalle with a match-bag of 10 for 94 runs and S. Perera who made 105 on Friday took the honours.

Isipatana: 259.

Maris Stella: overnight 97 for 7 wkts all out 149 (Evan Fernando 38 not out, C. Cruz 28, K. Madugalle 8 for 49) and 241 for 9 wkts at close. (Ranga Dias 51, Lloyd Cruz 37, Lalin Anthony 54, C. Cruz 29, K. Madugalle 2 for 45, A. Wanigasekera 2 for 52, S. Perera 2 for 34, V. Nuwan 2 for 32).

Perera and Premadasa get 'tons'

TWO CENTURIES by Piliyandala Central's Jayashantha Perera (180 not out) with 18 boundaries and eight sixes and Thurstan 'A' D. Premadasa (100 not out) were the main highlights of their drawn schools cricket match at Piliyandala yesterday.

Thurstan 'A' 209 and 248 for 3 at close (M. Fiyaz 98, D. Premada- sa not out 100).

Piliyandala Central 306 for 9 declared (Jayashantha Perera not out 180, Chamal Hettiaratchi 37, Gayan Randiligama 32, M. Fiyaz 2 for 43, S. P. Silva 2 for 44).

Colombo Varsity 505/7

UNIVERSITY OF Colombo made a massive 505 for 7 at close in 85.3 overs in their Division II cricket tournament match against Moors at Thurstan Road yesterday. Kshanaka Saparamadu was in top form for the undergrads, slamming 164 in just 123 deliveries and putting on 187 runs for the first wicket with Aruna Silva (97 off 106 balls).

University of Colombo 505 for 7 at close in 85.3 overs (Kshanaka Saparamadu 164, Aruna Silva 97, Vajira Balasuriya 45, Damitha Jayawardene 39, Harendra Wimalaransi 45, B. Leukebandara 48, Pra- deep Perera 30, S. Zarook 2 for 89).

Mahanama and Dharmasena get 94 runs each

BLOOMFIELD HAVE already obtained first innings points over BRC in their Saravanamuttu Trophy (Segment 'A') cricket tournament match at Reid Avenue yesterday. After BRC were all out for 283, Bloomfield replied with 410 for 9 at close.

Sanath Jayasuriya (43 with three boundaries and a six) and Roshan Mahanama (94 with 11 fours) put on 105 runs for the first wicket, while Nawid Nawaz (49 with seven fours) and Mahanama made 94 for the second wicket. Then, Kumara Dharmasena who was also unfortunate not to have made a century - he made 94 with 10 boundaries and three sixes, put on 84 runs for the fifth wicket with Ruwan Kalpage (24).
