Eligibility problem

Apart from questioning the eligibility of certain Controlling Member clubs having the right to vote at the Sri Lanka Cricket Board's annual general meeting on March 2, it would also be pertinent for the Executive Committee to examine how many of its Cricket Associations are similarly eligible.

Presently, there are seven major and 11 minor district cricket associations who are members of the Cricket Board, each of whom are entitled to two votes each. But the question is how many of them have conducted a tournament during the year as required by the constitution?

Clause 8 (c) of the Cricket Board constitution under 'Cricket Associations' states: ``Any Association which does not conduct a tournament in any particular year shall ipso facto cease to be a Member of the Board, unless valid reasons for failing to do so are submitted to and accepted at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Board''.

The district cricket associations are : (MAJOR) - Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Kurunegala, Matara.

(MINOR) - Amparai, Anuradhapura, Badulla, Hambantota, Kegalle, Matale, Moneragala, Nuwara Eliya, Polonnaruwa, Puttalam, Ratnapura.
