ODSC issue before sub-committee

20 January 1997

The Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has appointed a sub-committee to inquire into the Old Dharmapalian SC affair.

The issue came up before the ExCo on Saturday, for its ratification on the recommendation made to them by the tournament committee.

The tournament committee after an inquiry had found Old Dharmapalians guilty of violating Section 8.5 of Part 'A' and Section 11 of Part 'B' of its tournament rules and regulations by not having a proper pitch prepared for their division I (Segment 'B') match against Kandy CC at Aturugiriya on January 10.

Based on its findings, the tournament committee had recommended immediate suspension of Old Dharmapalians from the present tournament, to the ExCo.

The ExCo however, have deferred the punishment by appointing a three- member sub-committee to look into the matter further. The committee is scheduled to meet today.

The tournament committee had earlier this season recommended a similar suspension of another division I club - Sara trophy champs CCC for the same reasons, and the ExCo had ratified the decision without much ado.

The talk in cricket circles is whether double standards are being adopted by the Cricket Board's ExCo in implementing decisions.
