Date-stamped : 22 Apr97 - 14:23 21 April 1997 Players for Colombo Ilyas Beg LAHORE, April 20: Young right-arm paceman Abdul Razzaq and left-arm spinner Muhammad Hussain are being sent as replacements for the injured, world-class speed-merchants Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, who are flying back home by the first available flight. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) secretary Waqar Ahmad told this reporter on Sunday evening that efforts were being made to complete formalities for the departure of the two substituting players as early as possible so that they could reach Sri Lanka before the commencement of the second Test on April 26. He said that a PIA flight will leave Karachi for Colombo on April 22. He had sent an urgent message to the Sri Lanka Cricket Control Board (BCCSL) and Pakistan's High Commissioner to help in the availability of visas on arrival at the airport. He said that he had also had a telephonic conversation with the Pakistan cricket team manager Nasim-ul-Ghani in that connection and all concerned would be helping the two boys. Abdul Razzaq is a promising all-rounder, who had performed creditably during the Pakistan under-19 team's tour of the West Indies, and the home series against England "A" side and away series against South Africa. He had a foot injury and could not play against the visiting Australian youth team. He seems to have sufficiently recovered now. Abdul Razzaq had played a one-day international cricket match against Zimbabwe at the Qadhafi Stadium and taken two wickets. Muhammad Hussain is LCCA's left-arm spinner, who has been excelling during the last many domestic seasons. He played against the visiting New Zealand side in a three-day match at Sahiwal. Wasim Akram has been dogged by the recurrence of a shoulder injury, which did not allow him to do well during the Sharjah Cup Cricket Tournament among Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Unluckily, the other world-class Pakistani paceman, Waqar Younis, had a foot injury, which sidelined him from the first Test now being played against Sri Lanka at Colombo. Both Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis will return home soon and take rest before going to England to fulfil their commitments with the English counties. Wasim Akram is contracted to play for Lancashire, the county he has been serving for many years. Waqar Younis is scheduled to play his first season for Glamorgan for a lucrative remuneration. He is expected to be fit within five or six weeks. The PCB has asked Wasim Akram to seek his release from his county to lead the Pakistan cricket team in the Independence Cup Cricket Tournament in India in May. Waqar Younis had informed the PCB that he will not be available to play for Pakistan till September. Source:: Dawn (http://xiber.com/dawn/) Contributed by The Management (help@cricinfo.com)
