The Christchurch Press Canterbury Women Outclass Pakistan
The Canterbury women's cricket team set a record one-day score - 11 January 1997

yesterday.

Batting first Canterbury posted 425 for six in 50 overs with centuries to openers Katrina Withers and Trudy Anderson.

Pakistan was dismissed for a paltry 44.

From the outset Withers and Anderson plundered the bowling with Withers taking 79 balls and 83min for her 112 which included 15 boundaries. Anderson was only marginally more restrained with her 100 coming up in 108min. The partnership put on 183 for the first wicket before Withers retired.

The remainder of the line-up also enjoyed fluent shot-making with Karen le Comber getting 33, Lisa Astle 46, and Nicola Payne an attractive 65 not out.

The inexperience of the Pakistan team showed with inflexible field placing and inconsistent bowling, but the side effected two smart run-outs and Sharmeen Said Khan and Sultana Yousaf both took wickets.

The Pakistan team, still jet-lagged and playing its first international, was unable to cope with the accuracy of the Canterbury bowlers and in-swinger Jane Geary had two wickets before a run was on the board.
